Exploiting research

Exploiting your research

Have you ever wondered about the commercial potential of your research or wanted to take steps to explore your entrepreneurial side? Perhaps you already have a business idea or maybe you see yourself working in a more commercially orientated environment in the future?

Whether you aspire to set up your own spin-out company or simply want to improve your commercial awareness before moving into an R&D role, this workshop could be for you. Participants will learn how researchers can exploit their innovations and make money from their ideas, for example by licensing them or through the formation of moderate growth rate businesses (which don't necessarily require the injection of large sums of venture capital!)

Pools course

Several of the Scottish research pooling organisations (SUPA, SICSA and SINAPSE) recently funded a 60-person ScotSkills event entitled "Enterprise for Researchers" in 2009.

The participants went on to create a Facebook group to maintain contact and support future business development.

The Enterprise event ran again in 2010; here's the Facebook page for it.
